Why Modern Christianity Misses Jesus' True Message: Seeking the Kingdom of God

Today, many Christians remain spiritually stagnant and disillusioned. Why? Because the message preached in churches often lacks completeness. The mainstream teaching emphasizes belief in Jesus as the path to salvation and the promise of heaven after death. While this is central to Christianity, it is not the main point Jesus was trying to get across to his audience.

Jesus did not just come to offer salvation; He came to reveal the Kingdom of God and invite believers to participate in its manifestation here on earth. The overemphasis on the afterlife has, in many ways, overshadowed this crucial part of His message.

What Did Jesus Really Preach?

Throughout His ministry, Jesus consistently spoke about the Kingdom of God. Consider these powerful passages:

"Do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." (Matthew 6:31-33)

"I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent." (Luke 4:43)

"This is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.’" (Matthew 6:9-10)

These verses emphasize that Jesus was not just focused on heaven after death but on establishing God's rule in the present world. He called His followers to actively participate in bringing divine order, justice, and righteousness to earth.

Understanding the Kingdom of God

To grasp what Jesus meant, we must first understand what a kingdom is. A kingdom consists of:

A Territory – A defined space governed by a king.

A Government & Laws – Rules and principles that guide the citizens.

A Culture – The values, customs, language, and practices that define the kingdom's way of life.

Civilians – The citizens who live under the king's authority.

If we apply this to God’s Kingdom, it means we are called to live under His authority, follow His teachings, and cultivate a culture that reflects His values here on earth.

How Can We Manifest God's Kingdom on Earth?

Jesus' call to seek first the Kingdom of God is an invitation to:

Develop an Intimate Relationship with God – Aligning our lives with His will through prayer, study, and obedience.

Live Out Kingdom Values – Practicing love, justice, mercy, and integrity in our daily lives.

Engage with Culture & Society – Infusing God’s principles into art, media, business, and governance.

Take Action – Being the hands and feet of Christ by addressing social injustices, helping the needy, and spreading the Gospel through our actions.

The Bigger Picture: A New Earth

Human civilization has undergone numerous rise and collapse, along with constant transformation to where we are today. Yet, all of history is moving toward an ultimate destination—the full manifestation of God's Kingdom in the physical world, the New Earth (Revelation 21:1-3). And we are part of this unfolding story.

Final Thoughts: A Call to Action

Jesus is calling His followers to do more than just believe in Him. We are called to actively seek His Kingdom in the present world. The question is: Are we answering that call? Are we content with simply waiting for heaven, or are we working with God to transform our communities, cultures, and lives right now?

God vs Money

We live in a world currently where for most people, money is God whether or not they like to admit it. Secularism and consumerism has grown to such a extent that the pursuit of wealth and material success has become the center of people's lives. Many for the sake of accumulating money have put aside their ethics and compromised their moral values, demonstrating their idolization of money.  Conversely, many no longer place much value in organized religion and spirituality . Some Church's have been vandalized and burnt down. Attendance has declined drastically, and religious institutions hold ever lesser sway over public discourse and personal beliefs. Mans struggle throughout ones life and history has been between whether one serves either God or money. This existential conflict encapsulates the fundamental question of where one's allegiance lies: with spiritual values or material pursuits. Choosing to serve God entails prioritizing principles of faith, morality, and compas...

The Lost Art of Sacrifice

In a world obsessed with comfort and self-gratification, the ancient wisdom of sacrifice stands in stark contrast to our modern mindset. Jesus's parable of the rich fool in Luke 12 serves as a powerful reminder that true abundance isn't found in what we store up for ourselves, but in what we give away. The Rich Fool's Fatal Mistake The parable tells of a wealthy man whose land produced an abundant harvest. Instead of sharing his blessing, he decided to tear down his barns to build bigger ones, telling himself, "You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." But God's response was swift and sobering: "You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?" This powerful story reveals God's perspective—He abhors those who selfishly hoard resources while telling themselves to take life easy. By contrast, He loves those who take life seriously a...

Truth over everything

What is the most important value in the world ? Loyalty ? Faith ? Equality ? Many say prosperity. I believe the most important value is Truth. Seeking the truth for its own sake and not for any other reason. Seeking the truth about whether this life that we have right now is really all we have and death is the end of everything or is there more. Seeking out whether God is actually real. Seeking out ones purpose here on earth. These types of questions frightens many of us as it may seem near impossible to find the answer to them, however what if that is the main reason why each of us are placed here in the first place - to go on a adventure of discovery. How does one define truth? Pontius Pilate the roman prefect that oversaw the trial of Jesus Christ of Nazareth once asked Jesus "what is truth?" The dictionary defines it as "the quality and state of being true" as well as "that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality." I would add to the de...
